Let’s talk about it, ladies.
Are you packing the diamonds… or leaving them in the drawer?
When I travel, I pack light. Summer dresses, comfortable shoes, maybe one good bag. But one thing I almost never pack? My wedding ring — or any expensive jewelry that isn’t insured.
And it’s not because I don’t love it.
It’s because I love it too much.
There is something deeply sentimental about a wedding ring. It’s not just a piece of jewelry — it’s a promise, a memory, a moment frozen in metal. The thought of losing it in the ocean, leaving it by a hotel sink, or worse… being targeted because of it? Absolutely not.
I think about Kim Kardashian and the robbery she experienced in Paris. Now, she and I are in completely different tax brackets — let’s be clear. But the lesson? Flashy can attract attention. And attention isn’t always good.
We don’t have to be global celebrities to be watched.
Vacation changes your routine. You’re in unfamiliar environments. You’re relaxed. You’re distracted. You’re posting in real time. You’re out late. You’re walking through crowded tourist areas. All of that creates opportunity — and not always the good kind.
So for me? I leave the expensive pieces at home.
But here’s the twist.
Home isn’t foolproof either.
If someone knows you’re traveling and your house is empty, that can create risk too. Social media has made it incredibly easy to announce: “Hey! I’m not home!”
So what are we doing?
Are we:
- Wearing the real ring and hoping for the best?
- Traveling with a dupe?
- Leaving everything locked away?
- Insuring it and living freely?
- Or saying, “It’s mine, I’m wearing it”?
For me, peace of mind is worth more than the sparkle. I’d rather enjoy the beach than panic every time I rinse my hands. I’d rather explore markets than subconsciously clutch my finger.
But I know some women feel the opposite. Some feel naked without their ring. Some feel it’s part of their identity. And honestly? I respect that too.
Travel is about freedom. So maybe the real question isn’t about jewelry.
Maybe it’s about what makes you feel secure enough to fully enjoy your stamp.
So tell me — are you risking it? Or leaving it at home?
Let’s discuss.
