Amsterdam in a Day: From Charming Canals to Chocolates – The Ultimate Day Tour

Amsterdam, with its beautiful canals, rich history, and vibrant streets, is the perfect city to explore in a day. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning to soak in more of its charm, this itinerary will take you through some of the city’s best spots. Follow along for a day filled with indulgent bites, scenic walks, and plenty of history!

Start the Day at Pluk

Address: Reestraat 19, 1016 DM Amsterdam, Netherlands  

Begin your day with breakfast at Pluk, a charming and Instagram-worthy café in the heart of Amsterdam’s Nine Streets. The menu is full of delicious and healthy options, ranging from smoothie bowls to avocado toast. It’s the perfect spot to fuel up for the day ahead.  

Tip: Make sure to use the bathroom here before heading out—it’s as cute as the rest of the café!

Canal Tour

Amsterdam: Classic Boat Cruise

Meet at:Anne Frank House @ 11:15 am  

After breakfast, take a short walk to the Anne Frank House, where you’ll meet for a scenic canal tour. Amsterdam’s canals are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and there’s no better way to experience them than by boat. Sip on wine and nibble on cheese as you glide through the waterways, passing by historic homes and charming bridges.  

Shop Around the Nine Streets (Negen Straatjes)

Distance from Anne Frank House: 9-minute walk  

Once back on land, explore the iconic Nine Streets, also known as Negen Straatjes. This area is packed with unique boutiques, vintage shops, and local designer stores. Stroll through the cobblestone streets, pop into the shops that catch your eye, and maybe pick up a few souvenirs. Don’t forget to take a bathroom break before heading to your next stop!

Make Your Own Chocolate Bar at Tony’s Chocolonely

Distance from Nine Streets:** 20-minute walk  

What better way to dive into Dutch culture than by crafting your own chocolate bar at Tony’s Chocolonely? This famous chocolatier offers a fun, hands-on experience where you can create a custom chocolate bar. Choose your ingredients and design your packaging—it’s a sweet souvenir and a tasty treat all in one! Custom orders take around 2 hours to complete, so go the next stop, eat dinner and then come back to pick up your chocolate.

Wander Through the Red Light District

Distance from Tony’s: A leisurely walk  

Wrap up your day with a stroll through Amsterdam’s world-famous Red Light District. While known for its nightlife, this area is full of history and stunning architecture. Make sure to stop for a fresh stroopwafel, the ultimate Dutch snack. Enjoy the walk and the bustling atmosphere. If you’re ready for dinner, there are plenty of cozy restaurants nearby to settle in and end the day with a memorable meal.
