Tulum, with its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant local culture, offers the ideal getaway for a short but fulfilling vacation. With just 4 days to explore, it’s crucial to pack light and bring plenty of summer clothes to fully enjoy your tropical escape.
Solo travel is a deeply personal experience, and I’ll be honest—it’s not for everyone. If you’re not comfortable with yourself, it can be hard to fully enjoy. It took me years to reach a place where I could embrace my own company. I started small: going to the movies alone, then eating solo dinners—but only at the bar. Eventually, I challenged myself to sit at a booth, phone-free, and just be present. It felt awkward at first, but over time, it became empowering. Living on my own also played a big role in this transformation.
That journey of self-discovery prepared me for experiences like this quick solo trip to Tulum. Here’s how I made the most of it!
Day 1: Arrival and Dinner
Arrive in Tulum and check into your accommodation. Opt for a hotel that embodies the charm of Tulum and provides easy access to both the beach and the town center.
My hotel recommendations:
Dinner at the Hotel
Unwind from your journey with a relaxing dinner at the hotel restaurant at 9:30 pm. Rest up for an adventurous day tomorrow.
Day 2: Mayan Ruins and Cenotes
Breakfast at the Hotel
Start your day with a breakfast at the hotel at 8:00 am. Some hotels offer free breakfast. Take advantage of this and fuel up for a day of exploration with a hearty meal.
Visit Tulum Ruins and Cenote

From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, take a tour to the Tulum Ruins and a nearby cenote. This tour often includes pickup, so you can focus on soaking up the Mayan history and refreshing in the cenote. Check out more about the tour (Mayan Ruins and Cenote tour).

Dinner and Nightlife

Get ready for dinner at 7:00 pm followed by a bar crawl at Alexa Tulum starting at 8:30 pm. I went into town and ate tacos at a Vegan Taco stand, however, if your stomach is not strong enough to handle street food, opt for dinner at your hotel. Experience Tulum’s vibrant nightlife and enjoy the local scene.
I love pub crawls as a solo traveler because they’re a great way to connect with fellow solo adventurers and locals. I usually plan one for my first night—it’s the perfect opportunity to gather tips and recommendations for the rest of my trip. Plus, you might even meet a few girlfriends to join you on your adventures!

Day 3: Adventure and Relaxation
Floating Breakfast
Enjoy a unique floating breakfast in the pool at 8:00 am. This leisurely meal is a great way to start the day and soak in the tropical ambiance. Most hotels offer this at an extra charge: $50-$70
Explore Downtown Tulum

Rent a bike and head into town. Discover Tulum Downtown, shop for unique souvenirs, and experience the lively atmosphere.
Sunday Brunch
Savor a delightful Sunday brunch at Balaxe at 3:00 pm. This is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a delicious meal in a charming setting. For most brunch spots, there is a minimum spend of $50 US.
Day 4: Departure Day
Breakfast and Beach Time
On your final day, have breakfast at your hotel and spend some time lounging by the beach. Tulum’s beautiful coastline is the perfect place to unwind before you head home.

Travel Home
Prepare for your departure, making sure that your light packing has made your travels as smooth as possible. Remember, Tulum is 2 hours to the Cancun airport so make sure to leave on time.
Transportation to and from Tulum typically cost $300 Roundtrip, however the service Black In Tulum offers concierge services at a cheaper rate.
Happy Travels!
